The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad among other districts for tomorrow, July 25, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall.

In its five-day forecast, the weather department maintained that rain will continue to lash the maximum in Mumbai during this week despite it downgraded the rainfall alert to yellow from Wednesday, July 26. On the other hand, districts like Thane, Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and Satara are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall till Thursday, July 27. 

However, owing to this incessant rainfall since the past few days, the collective water level stock at all seven lakes have crossed 52  per cent as on July 24.

On Saturday, July 22, the city witnessed its wettest day of the year with record-breaking rainfall. 

The IMD data showed that the figure crossed the 200-mm mark during the period between 8.30 am on Friday, July 21, and 8.20 am on Saturday, July 22.

If reports are to be believed, 203.7 mm of rainfall was recorded at the Santacruz observatory, while the coastal observatory in Colaba recorded 103 mm.

So far, the highest single-day rainfall this season was recorded on June 25 at 176.1 mm, followed by 121.6 mm on June 29. The second-highest rainfall recorded this month was on July 18 at 119.9 mm.
