As Mumbai is reeling under the water, five NDRF teams have been deployed in the city in view of the heavy rains since yesterday, July 4. As Mumbai records 95.81 mm of rain in the last 12 hours, Sion Circle in Mumbai faces severe waterlogging.

In view of the increasing rains and the possibility of floods, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has discussed with the Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava and directed the concerned Guardian Secretaries to reach those districts and do direct monitoring and control.

Following heavy to very heavy rainfall, several rivers across Konkan coast in Maharashtra, especially in Ratnagiri district, have been flowing above danger mark, leading to flooding of the low-lying areas and prompting deployment of NDRF for rescue efforts on Monday.

Therefore, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed district collectors and officials across the state in view of the weather department's warning of torrential rains in the next few days. He has directed NDRF personnel and other teams to be prepared to prevent floods and damage of any life and property.

With the Jagabudi river in Khed tehsil flowing above danger mark, residents in the area have been directed to evacuate. The NDRF has deployed its team along with the dog squad at Chiplun in Konkan area, according to an official from the State Disaster Management Authority.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to inform the people of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg and Kolhapur districts about flood-like situation and make arrangements at appropriate places to vacate them from flood affected areas.

Under the influence of formation of low pressure area and intensification of monsoon flow, the west coast is expected to receive heavy rainfall, hence, alert may be kept for the rise in river water levels of sub-basins of Vashishthi and Terekhol Tillari in Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, an advisory from the Central Water Commission (CWC) said.

Jagbudi, Vashishthi, Shashtri, Sonavi, Kajali, Kodavali, Muchkundi and Bavnadi rivers have been flowing above their respective danger marks since Monday morning, local administration said.
