Coronavirus has taken the world by the storm. The virus that originated in Wuhan in China has been cause of concern for people across the world and India is no different. In order to contain this virus to spread any further in India, a 21-day lockdown has been ordered by Prime Minister. This curfew will remain in play till April 14, 2020.

In the past few days there have been rumours that this lockdown may well be extended for another 14 days but the same was debunked today by MHA. Coming back to lockdown, during this time only people can venture out only to buy essentials or if they are employed in a sector that has been classified as essentials.

As a result of this, people are not venturing out much on the roads, which has further led to a fall in demand for petroleum products. It is estimated that during this lockdown, the sale of petrol has fallen by at least 80 per cent and the demand for a diesel too has come down significantly.

Since petrol pumps are seen as an essential commodity, they have permission to stay open but now they are open for a single shift of 7am to 7pm.

In Mumbai, there are 243 Petrol Pumps out of which 223 pumps are run by dealers while 20 are company-owned. The business for these pumps has been slow during these lockdown days. However, on the brighter side, the air pollution level too has come down significantly.
