The first phase of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) pilot project is set to begin on Palm Beach Road, marking a major step toward smarter and more efficient traffic management in Navi Mumbai.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is implementing this advanced, technology-driven system under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, ensuring that the ambitious initiative places no financial burden on the administration. Once operational, ITMS will adjust signal timings at every junction based on real-time vehicle density. This intelligent system will help reduce unnecessary halts, ease congestion, and ensure smoother traffic flow across the city.
The reduction in repeated braking is expected to significantly cut travel time and save fuel for commuters. Equipped with high-capacity cameras and sensors, the new system will enhance road safety by instantly detecting accidents, breakdowns, or emergencies and alerting relevant agencies for quicker response.
Motorists will receive real-time traffic updates through digital display boards and a mobile app, enabling them to avoid congested routes. Emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines will benefit from a “green corridor” mechanism, where LED screens will guide the corridor path for faster movement.
Implemented through Poonam Trading Corporation, the project is also expected to be economically beneficial for NMMC. Digital screens installed at signals will generate advertising revenue while providing modern infrastructure at zero cost to the civic body.
