The Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has announced its plan to invest INR 4.75 crore in a multipurpose rehabilitation centre, which will provide free services to residents with physical and mental disabilities. The rehabilitation centre will also offer physiotherapy and other specialised care.

Nearly 5,500 individuals with disabilities have registered with the KDMC. These residents will receive free multimodal rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, at no cost. This is the first time civic body has introduced free medical services of this kind.

KDMC Commissioner Indurani Jakhar approved the tender for the centre, which will be managed by the Social Development department. This department will supervise the medical professionals at the facility, including certified physiotherapists.

The KDMC has issued a work order for the project. The INR 4.75 crore investment will cover the centre's costs over the next three years. The new centre will be located on the ground floor of the Mahila Kalyan Kendra Vastu in Kalyan’s C ward. It will occupy a space of 7,000 square feet.

The centre will offer a variety of medical services. These include speech therapy, daily living activities, interventional learning, yoga, meditation, psychological counselling, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and medical consultations. The consultations will cover orthopaedic, neurological, Ayurvedic, and homoeopathic treatments.

It will also allow unregistered individuals to sign up for these free services. KDMC will set up a registration area for new applicants. Only residents of the Kalyan Dombivli region will be eligible to receive the services for free. Residents from nearby cities can access the services at a nominal fee.
