Citizens yet again bear the brunt of a rise in prices of petrol and diesel.

Mumbaikars witnessed yet another surge in fuel prices on Monday, with petrol priced at Rs 107 and diesel costing nearly Rs 98 per litre. The citizens had a sense of respite on Sunday when the prices remained unaltered. Whilst the rate of petrol rose by 27 paise, it earlier stood at Rs 106.93 per litre. However, this respite did not last for too long. 

Currently, petrol in the city costs Rs 107.20 per litre, a peak that the city and its residents have witnessed for the first time. If one is to take a glance at the price of diesel it stands at Rs 97.29 per litre. 

It was on 29th May'21 that the city breached the Rs 100 per litre mark price for petrol and since there has been a constant upsurge in prices, which invariably has been burning a hole in the pockets of the citizens. Since 1st May'21, the prices of fuel have risen 39 times and has remained unaltered on 34 days. 

Taking into consideration the rise in prices, several political parties have taken to the streets and have been voicing their apprehensions about the same. Some of these political parties include the likes of the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. They have through the days, been holding protests across the city against the rise in prices. 

This rise in prices comes at a time when there has been a restriction in the utilization of local train services. Commuters have been forced to ply by road to get to their place of work and thus, the hike in fuel prices only adds to their woes.
