Even as a complete lockdown in Maharashtra's Nagpur begins today, March 15, in the wake of a rise in COVID-19 cases, many people were seen coming out on the roads to jog and exercise. 

According to reports, police personnel have been deployed across Nagpur. The Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar said to reporters, "Patrolling is being done across the city. Actions are being taken against those who are out on streets unnecessarily and those violating COVID-related norms."

On the other hand, many roads in the city wore a deserted look, similar to the last lockdown.

Moreover, traffic will be closely watched during the period in order to discourage people from going out of their houses unnecessarily, he added.

The lockdown, imposed in the jurisdiction of the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate, will go on till at least March 21.

According to the order, private offices will also remain closed for the period of the lockdown and government offices will function at 25 per cent capacity. Weekly markets, as well as malls, will also remain closed during the lockdown and public functions, gatherings and weddings are prohibited for the period of the lockdown. Restaurants have been allowed to operate till 9 pm whereas home delivery of food will be closed after 10 pm.

Nagpur is one of the worst hit-regions in Maharashtra and reported 2,252 new cases on Sunday.

On March 11, the Centre had announced that eight out of 10 worst-hit districts in the country are in Maharashtra, adding to the state's concerns.

On Sunday, March 14, the Latur district administration imposed a night curfew between 8 pm and 5 am in the district. Besides, Aurangabad, Parbhani, Osmanabad, Pune, Nanded, Thane, Palghar, Jalgaon and Nashik are other places in Maharashtra that have put COVID-19 restrictions.
