As the cases of coronavirus continue to spike in Maharashtra, the biggest question that is running on everyone's mind is that will there be another lockdown in the state?

On Sunday, while talking regarding the same Maharashtra minister Aslam Sheikh said that there is a need to impose a lockdown for 2-3 weeks in the state. This was after he had the meeting with the COVID-19 task force. He said that the decision on lockdown was unanimous however, some are in favour of a two-week lockdown while others are suggesting to impose it for three weeks. He added, "SOPs and guidelines are likely to be discussed in another meeting scheduled for Monday".

The meeting with the task force was held virtually. It was aimed at deliberating the need for another statewide lockdown. Dr Pradeep Vyas, Dr TP Lahane, Dr Sanjay Oak, Dr Avinash Supe, Dr Shashank Joshi and Dr Rahul Pandit were among members of the task force present in the meeting.CM Uddhav Thackeray too was present in this meeting.

In this meeting, Thackeray discussed setting up oxygen generation plants, upgrading the number of beds and other medical facilities, besides the availability of Remdesivir injections. According to reports, CM Thackeray is of the opinion that a stringent lockdown must be in place in order to fight the spike in cases of the coronavirus

Thackeray also mentioned that he would again request the Prime Minister to supply more vaccines to Maharashtra to increase vaccination in the state. “Although we are ahead in vaccination, we will speed up and vaccinate as many people as possible. This vaccination will be useful to prevent the spread of infections. However, to stop the current wave, we have to impose strict restrictions for some time,” said Uddhav Thackeray.

There are already stringent measures being followed in the state to break the chain. There was a weekend lockdown imposed on April 10 and 11. This was apart from the night curfew that is also been followed in the state.
