Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting on Sunday, April 11, with members of the task force comprising expert doctor, wherein experts suggested a two-week lockdown to break the coronavirus chain.

Though CM has hinted at imposing a complete lockdown in the state, it will not be implemented immediately. The general public should be given a period of 2-3 days, said Thackeray.

While no conclusive decision over a lockdown was taken, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said a decision could be taken over the next two three days. At the same time, all party leaders have agreed with the government's decision. He also said that a master plan to deal with a lockdown situation was in readiness.

The Chief Minister may take a decision on or after April 14 after the Cabinet meeting later in the week, Tope added. In this meeting, the CM discussed setting up oxygen generation plants, upgrading the number of beds and other medical facilities, besides the availability of Remdesivir injections.

Thackeray also mentioned that he would again request the Prime Minister to supply more vaccines to Maharashtra to increase vaccination in the state. “Although we are ahead in vaccination, we will speed up and vaccinate as many people as possible. This vaccination will be useful to prevent the spread of infections. However, to stop the current wave, we have to impose strict restrictions for some time,” said Uddhav Thackeray.

Yet another series of meetings are expected to take place over the next two days, including a discussion with the Finance Department, said sources, adding that Thackeray’s meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar and Finance Department Secretaries on Monday, April 12 would be regarding the provision of relief packages in the event of a lockdown.
