On Wednesday, April 28, the state government is likely to take a decision on the extension of lockdown in the state after a discussion in the state cabinet meeting.

Strict restrictions have been imposed in Maharashtra to break the chain of the coronavirus infection. During this period, all except the essential service personnel are prohibited from travelling in public places. These restrictions will be in effect till May 1. However, after that, discussions are underway as to whether the lockdown will be extended or the restrictions will be lifted.

Moreover, earlier on Tuesday, April 27, Vijay Wadettiwar, relief and rehabilitation minister, speaking about the same stated, “Though Covid cases are dipping in Mumbai and Thane, the same trend is not being seen in rural parts of the state, such as Marathwada and Vidarbha. The lockdown is in force till May 1. In tomorrow’s cabinet, the discussion will take place and the decision will be made on whether to extend lockdown by a week or two,”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray earlier on April 13, 2021, announced a curfew to break the chain of coronavirus infection in the state, and only essential services were excluded to ensure convenience for the public. However, despite sec 144, the spread of coronavirus has not decreased in the state and a large number of people are still leaving their homes. Officials have also noted that people are walking on the streets and crowding several areas in the name of essential services. As a result, COVID-19 cases are on a rise and the state is currently running out of beds, oxygen and medicines, which had added a lot of pressure on the health system.
