Sixty conservancy workers from the T ward who claim they were sacked from their jobs on Wednesday without any prior notice have now launched an agitation demanding to be reinstated.

The 60 workers who lost their jobs without getting any prior notice about their sudden removal, say the BMC has brought in mechanised garbage removal systems for the work they were doing.

On Thursday, the workers met additional municipal commissioner Prashant Sapkale to press for their demands, and have threatened an intensified agitation if their demands are not met.

While T ward officials refused to comment on the issue, a voluntary organisation Ekta Sanstha has taken up cudgels on behalf of the workers. Sanstha president Rajendra Patil has said that the Ekta Sanstha will support the workers's demands.
