On Sunday, May 30, amidst the second wave of the coronavirus, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced the extension of the lockdown in the state by 15 days.

Moreover, CM Thackeray warned the people against letting their guards down, adding that coronavirus cases are still high in a few districts. In addition, he spoke about the possibility of a third wave of COVID-19, stating that the effects of the same would largely depend on the behaviour of the citizens. Meanwhile, he announced several welfare packages for various sections of society.

Speaking about the same, he stated, “Our COVID-19 figures are high even today. They are commensurate to the peak of the first wave…. The death rate has gone down as compared to the first wave," also speaking about the restrictions he added, “We are putting in place restrictions and not a strict lockdown. There are a few districts in Maharashtra where numbers are going high, especially in rural areas. We need to control this,"

On the other hand, the CM also raised the issue of oxygen saying the requirement far exceeds the current oxygen generation capacity of the state. According to reports, the oxygen generation capacity of the state was 12,500 MT, which was increased to 13,000 MT but now the daily requirement has gone up to 17,000 MT.

Furthermore, on Sunday, Maharashtra recorded 18,600 fresh cases of the coronavirus which happens to be its lowest one-day count since mid-March this year. According to the health department, his propelled the COVID-19 tally to 57,31 815.
