Amidst the pandemic, the state government has decided to extend the lockdown in Maharashtra till February 28, 2021.

On Friday, January 29, the Maharashtra government announced an extension in prevailing lockdown restrictions till February 28.

Moreover, according to reports, the government added that the existing Mission Begin Again guidelines in relation to the coronavirus pandemic will remain in force till the end of February. Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, further stated, “The state government is satisfied that the state of Maharashtra is threatened with the spread of COVID-19 virus, and therefore to take certain emergency measures to prevent and contain the spread of the virus, it is expedient to extend the lockdown in the entire state of Maharashtra further till February 28, 2021,”

Furthermore, it cited the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and The Disaster Management Act, 2005, which states that “the guidelines issued with orders dated 30th September 2020 and 14th October 2020 (extended by order dated 29th October 2020, 27th November 2020 and 29th December 2020) to operationalise MISSION BEGIN AGAIN for easing of restrictions and phase-wise opening, will remain in force till 28th February 2021 for containment of COVID-19 epidemic in the state.

Meanwhile, earlier on January 27, Maharashtra improved its COVID-19 vaccination numbers by 15 per cent as 41,470 people took the vaccination for the coronavirus on the seventh day of the first phase of the state-wide vaccination drive meant for people working in the health sector. According to reports, the state could, however, only meet 77 per cent of the intended daily target of 53,900 healthcare workers. “We added many sites, variation was bound to be there,” informed the National Health Mission Chief N Ramaswami.
