BJP MP Manoj Kotak has demanded that the state government should provide immediate financial help to the fishermen and people affected by Cyclone Tauktae.
Due to the storm, fishermen, as well as common people in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Mumbai and surrounding areas, have suffered. Speaking about the same, the BJP MP stated, "While on one hand, the general public is suffering from the coronavirus and the lockdown, on the other hand, due to the storm, there has been a lot of financial loss for fishermen to the affected people. Keeping in view the seriousness of the people, the affected people should be compensated for this loss. The government should not just fill the declaration but soon provide relief money to the affected people. "
Furthermore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier sent the warning signs of the cyclone with strict orders for fishermen not to conduct any operations till the cyclone completely settles down. High-level meetings were also conducted and complete preparations were executed. Moreover, the body informed that light or moderate rainfall is predicted in North and Northeast parts after Gujarat.
On the other hand, areas of Maharashtra including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Palghar, and Sindhudurg witnessed dangerous consequences due to Cyclone Tauktae. Mumbai was hit by heavy rains and strong winds which caused isolated incidents of damage to trees and electrical poles. Moreover, 410 personnel adrift on two barges in Mumbai had to be rescued during the cyclone. Meanwhile, at least 146 people have been rescued while 127 are reported to be missing.
