In a recently taken decision, the state government of Maharashtra has invited suggestions from the general public regarding the state's proposed caravan tourism policy.

The draft caravan tourism policy has been published on the website of the Directorate of Tourism, and if one has any points for the government to notice, they can send it on the website www.maharashtratourism.gov.in and email it on asdtourism.est-mh@gov.in by October 3, 2020. An appeal has been made by the Directorate of Tourism.

Maharashtra has been knowns for its beauty and there are many unique tourist destinations including scenic beaches, historical forts, mountain ranges,  rivers, forests, heritage sites, caves, dams, etc. The state has great potential for caravan tourism and however remote areas often do not have accommodation facilities like hotels and resorts.

Hence, caravans and camper vans will be able to provide the necessary facilities to the tourists in these areas, and the same can be done in places where permanent accommodation is not available at present. Keeping this in mind, the state government has drafted a caravan tourism policy and has been appealed to the citizens to send suggestions and objections in this regard.

The concept popular in the west includes an added carriage attached to the back of the car.

In recent times, eco, adventure, wildlife, pilgrimage have started gaining popularity. In this, photographers and practitioners often have to stay in remote areas, forests, beaches along with tourists. Often it is observed that one is not possible to build permanently in this place. However, with this new policy, tourists will be able to experience the unique experience of staying in a ‘caravan’ at such beaches, forts and tourist places.
