Temples reopen in Maharashtra with strict guidelines

The decision to reopen temples was given by Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, who stated that the places of worship for all religions can be opened in the state from November 16, 2020. The day marks the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj.

A few days back, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that temples of all religions shall reopen in the state from November 16, 2020, and the directives were followed by the respective authorities. The day marks the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj.

Keeping the same in mind, the government has drafted strict guidelines and have asked the temple administration to ensure the safety of the visitors at all times. Officials have been asked to strictly follow the rules and discipline, and the CM also asked the citizens to avoid crowding thereby protect others along with oneself.

The committee in charge of the management of religious places has been given the responsibility to strictly following the rules keeping the COVID19 outbreak in mind. Following are the guidelines imposed

  • Religious places across containment zones will remain closed and only the ones marked outside the containment zone shall be allowed.
  • Senior citizens above 65 years, pregnant women and children below 10 years should refrain from visiting the temples
  • Mandatory to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet between two persons
  • Avoid touching idols, statues or holy scriptures
  • Distribution of the sweets (prasad) and sprinkling of holy water should be avoided
  • Care should be taken to ensure a safe flow of food
  • Information boards about COVID19 to be placed in the vicinity of religious places at all times. Audio cassettes to be installed too.
  • Places of worship should be planned by understanding space available in the temples and the availability of ventilation.
  • Wearing masks, maintaining sanitation, and safe environment is mandatory
  • Arrangements should be made for everyone to wash their hands and feet before entering the place of worship
  • Arrangements should be made to remove the footwear from the vehicle before entering the place of worship. If there is no such option, everyone should arrange to keep their family's footwear in a separate place.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that parking outside the place of worship is not crowded and other shops and cafeterias in the area are also kept safe.
