The Maharashtra government has announced that it will bear the educational expenses of two minor girls who were victims in the Badlapur school assault case reported in August 2024 in Ambernath taluka of Thane district.

The incident had triggered widespread outrage across Maharashtra, with protests and strong reactions emerging from various sections of society. Following the case, the then School Education Minister had assured that the state government would take responsibility for the girls’ education expenses.

According to the government resolution, both girls have now been admitted to schools chosen by their parents for the 2024–25 academic year and are currently studying in Class 1. The government has approved payment of their admission and educational fees up to Class 10 as a one-time special measure under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

The decision covers educational fees for one survivor from Class 1 to Class 10, while for the second survivor it includes pending Junior KG fees along with education expenses up to Class 10.

Authorities stated that the fees will be directly paid to the respective schools every academic year through the provisions of the Right to Education Act. District education officers and the Director of Primary Education have been instructed to complete the process and ensure timely payment to the schools.
