COVID-19: Maharashtra Hopes To Vaccinate 70,000 On First Day Of 15-18 Age Group Vaccination Drive

On Monday, January 3, Maharashtra hopes to vaccinate a minimum of 70,000 young adults when the inoculation drive for 15 -18 age groups commence, reports stated. State authorities remarked that 1,000 sessions have been initiated for the drive's first day with a higher number at urban districts since they expect the response to be positive. 

Based on accounts, in Mumbai, nine BMC jumbo centres will hold the free drive and provisions have been made to inoculate nearly 500 - 1,500 children. Additionally, certain centres have tied up with civic schools as well who will take their students in 25-50 batches for vaccination. 

Earlier the drive was to be inaugurated by Maharashtra cabinet minister, Aaditya Thackeray at the BKC jumbo centre at 11 am. However, owing to the rise in COVID-19 cases it was held virtually. 

Maharashtra's immunization officer, Dr Sachin Desai was quoted by narratives elaborating on how to avoid overcrowding, vaccination is encouraged through online registration. Nonetheless, he said there will be an opportunity for in-person registration as well. 

On the other hand, additional municipal commissioner, Suresh Kakani elaborated on how they hope to inoculate a minimum of 2,500 children from 11 am, mentioned reports. Apart from these, even those private hospitals that have Covaxin stocks will be vaccinating the young adults. 

According to narratives, jumbo centres have created separate booths as well as alternative entrances in certain cases to ensure smooth flow. BMC's executive health officer, Dr Mangala Gomare remarked that Mumbai has over 3 lakh doses of Covaxin doses to assist in the adolescents' vaccination drive, stated reports.
