Fortnight event to celebrate Marathi language inaugurated

Addressing on the occasion, Minister Subhash Desai said, that there was a need to carry forward the rich heritage of Marathi language and he appealed to the citizens across Maharashtra to speak the language and insist people on learning the same.

The state government of Maharashtra, with an aim to celebrate Marathi language, today, on January 14, 2021, inaugurated the event which will be held for a fortnight across the state. The event was inaugurated at the Trimurti premises of the ministry, by State Marathi language minister Subhash Desai, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

Addressing on the occasion, Minister Subhash Desai said, that there was a need to carry forward the rich heritage of Marathi language and he appealed to the citizens across Maharashtra to speak the language and insist people on learning the same.

The event has been organised in association with Department of Marathi Language, State Marathi Vikas Sanstha, Maharashtra State Board of Literature and Culture, P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Arts Academy, Department of Higher and Technical Education (Library) and Directorate General of Information and Public Relations, who will conduct the event throughout the fortnight,  from 14th January to 28th January 2021.

Marking this occasion, the state government has arranged various programs such as book exhibition, reading competition, Marathi quiz, etc., across the districts in Maharashtra and the Marathi Language Department has been given the responsibility to take forward all the activities related to the language.

Appreciating the efforts taken by the department, Minister Desai said that it was admirable to see the results which are visible today. He stated that the officials and employees of the Ministry are trying their best to take the Marathi language forward, and they have worked hard towards it. The efforts to use the language every day has been a long tradition at the Ministry. Having said this, he appealed to the officers and employees to continue this tradition.

An exhibition of books written by them will be displayed at the event until the last day, and it is expected that others will be inspired by this. Furthermore, awards have been given to people who have contributed their work in Marathi and will be considered as the pioneers of Marathi language

Adding more, he said that every department in the government should be run in Marathi, and places like banks, post offices, railway offices should insist transactions in Marathi, and this should be considered as a priority in the state.
