For 4th day in a row, Maharashtra reports less than 1,000 COVID-19 cases

Maharashtra registered less than 1,000 coronavirus cases for the fourth consecutive day on Monday, November 8.

The urban areas governed by the municipal corporations accounted for 68 per cent of the COVID-19 caseload.

On Monday, the state recorded 751 cases and 15 deaths. However, officials attributed the the low tally case to the fewer tests being conducted due to Diwali.

Of the total cases, 511 were from the 27 municipal corporations of the state.

Most of the cases have been recorded from Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli and Pune Chinchwad Municipal Corporations.

Thirteen districts and eight municipal corporations including Malegaon, Nandurbar, Hingoli, Parbhani, Nanded, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim recorded zero deaths yesterday.

According to reports, only 61,720 tests were conducted in the state as against the usual 1.2 lakh to 1.5 lakh due to due to the festival. The state tally since March 2020 stands at 66,18,347 and while the death toll touched 1,40,403.

The state has 13,649 active cases currently, of which Mumbai has 3,599 active cases, followed by Pune (2,985) and Ahmednagar (2,225).

Meanwhile, in Mumbai the COVID-19 graph has been on a decline since June. On Monday, November 8, the city continued with its five-day trend of registering less than 300 cases. Mumbai has only 13 buildings are sealed as against 30-plus last week. The city has recorded only 206 cases and five deaths. With this death toll rose to 16,281.

Dr Joshi said there could be a slight increase due to the socialization, however, its effect might be seen in the next two weeks. Moreover, the health officials should use this time to locate people who have taken the vaccine and counsel them to take the shot.
