After the rebellion of Ajit Pawar, the post of state opposition leader was vacant, however, now the Congress has appointed its own MLA on this post. Finally, Vijay Vadettiwar has been elected as the Leader of the Opposition today, August 3.

After the split between Shiv Sena and NCP, the strength of Congress in the assembly has increased. The names of Vijay Wadettiwar from Congress and Sangram Thope from NCP were doing the rounds for the post of Leader of the Opposition.

Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar announced the name of Vijay Wadettiwar as the Leader of the Opposition, following which the House congratulated him. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar himself appointed Wadettiwar as the Leader of the Opposition. After this, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde congratulated Vadettiwar. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taunted Uddhav Thackeray while congratulating Vijay Wadettiwar.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, "Congratulations to Vijay Waddetiwar, our Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is also from Vidarbha, the opposition leader is also from Vidarbha, the President of the country was also the daughter-in-law of Vidarbha, injustice has been done to Vijay Waddetiwar. He should have got this opportunity in the beginning. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has taunted Uddhav Thackeray while congratulating Vijay Wadettiwar. Eknath Shinde said, Vijay Waddetiwar is not a leader who works from home, he is a leader who works on the streets. It takes courage to come out on the streets and work and that's what we did. If there is a crisis, don't hide, you have to face it.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, the state has got an able opposition leader.
