Approximately 40 passengers of the MSRTC Udgir-Pune escaped death due to a young man’s bravado. Sudhir Rane saved 40 passengers on January 12 in the nick of time when a ST bus was about to drown in Ujani river.  

As per the reports, the incident took place on Solapur-Pune National Highway around 10.30 pm to 11 pm after the bus collided with a metal safety girder. The passengers were alerted after they heard a loud noise, they panicked. Meanwhile, the bus driver fainted.

Without wasting any time, Rane went behind the wheel, with his prior experience, took control of the bus and halted the bus using the handbrake, preventing a major accident.

The bus driver, identified as Govind Suryavanshi, suffered a heart attack and he fell unconscious and the vehicle's control was lost resulting in the incident, according to a local report. The report stated the bus would have fallen into the backwater of the Ujani reservoir.

The bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital where he is currently being treated.
