Hirkani rooms have been made mandatory in public, semi-public, educational institutions, offices or companies where women work in large numbers in the state. The government has recently released a notification making legal provision for this in the Municipal Corporation Act. The hirkani rooms will be created in the residential and commercial buildings to be constructed in the state, and the Carpet Area Index (FSI) of that space will not be calculated.

Apart from this, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the establishment of Hirkani Cell in every police station during the budget session of the Legislative Assembly while speaking on the proposal presented on the occasion of International Women's Day. Accordingly, a campaign has been launched to start new Hirakani rooms for the convenience of mothers and children in crowded places like railway stations, bus stations, hospitals, police stations and in the first phase, such Hirkani rooms will be established in 17 places. At the same time, a campaign has been undertaken to establish hirkani rooms in all the places where women work in large numbers in the state.

Accordingly, it has been ordered to set up hirkani rooms in public, semi-public, institutional, educational and other similar buildings where women work to a large extent. Hirkani room will provide convenience to lactating mothers, pregnant women, children under six years and their mothers. Sources informed that a preliminary notification in this regard has been issued by the Urban Development Department and a final decision will be taken soon.


Amendment of Regulations

Development control rules of Municipal Corporations have been amended and each office will now have a room of 25 square metres area. Also, it has been made mandatory for the management to provide all necessary facilities for women at that place and this place has been excluded from the mat area index.
