The fire at the Mankhurd scrapyard was doused in on Saturday, February 6, after nearly 20 hours of continuous efforts of the firefighting operations carried out by the authorities.

On Friday, February 5, a massive fire broke out in Mandala, a slum-dominated area. The fire department identified it as a level-3 fire.

Fire-fighting operations were carried out at the affected site and as many as 19 fire tenders were deployed. Considering the severity of the fire, the fire brigade personnel had evacuated the surrounding area.

Residents of the area said that no causality was reported but there are damages to the property.

However, a fire officer Harish Nadkar (40) was injured during the operation to douse the fire. He was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital at Govandi. His condition has said to be stable.
