The incident occurred around 3:35 pm on Thursday when the train was heading towards Matheran station. Fortunatly, no one was injured in the incident.

On Thursday, Neral-Matheran toy train services were disrupted for 30 minutes after two wheels of a luggage coach derailed between Jumma Patti and Water Pipe stations. According to a Central Railway officials, the incident occurred around 3:35 pm, when the train was heading towards Matheran station. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

This is the third toy train derailment incident registered this year. The first was in October, three days after services resumed post monsoon when a luggage-cum-brake van coach derailed near Aman Lodge station. Then on December 9, a day after the AC coach service was started, the toy train’s engine derailed near Jumma Patti station.

A CR official said that incident that took place on Thursday was not a major derailment, only two wheels of a luggage coach had come off the track only partly. He added that services resumed within 30 minutes and there were no casualties.

On a daily basis, the shuttle service runs between Aman Lodge and Matheran station with up to 20 services during weekends. The latest disruption is worrying CR officials as they are planning to increase the toy train’s speed to 15 kmph from 10 kmph.

Following the December 9 disruption, CR had dispatched a team to Matheran to inspect the coach and tracks.

In May 2016, following back-to-back derailments, the toy train service was suspended for one-and-a-half—year. It was relaunched this January.
