Mumbai – The Mayor’s bungalow in Shivaji Park has been allocated for Shiv Sena president Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial. It had created the problem of new residence for city’s new mayor. As the mayor’s new residence is not fixed till date, the newly elected Mayor will stay in the existing bungalow at Shivaji Park, clarified Yashwant Jadhav, leader of the house.
Former mayor Snehal Ambekar has not yet vacated her official residence even after the election of Vishwanath Mahadeshwar as new mayor. The state government has allocated this bungalow for Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial and the state legislature has passed a bill in this regard. The civic body has also passed a resolution in this connection giving the mayor’s bungalow land to the memorial trust. It was decided to shift the residence of mayor to the additional municipal commissioner’s bungalow in Ranibaug in Byculla and even the renovation work of this bungalow was taken up.
The then standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse and leader of the house Trushna Vishwasrao opposed this proposed bungalow as the residence of mayor and demanded municipal commissioner’s bungalow as the new residence of mayor. Meanwhile, mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar has stated that he would soon start living in mayor’s bungalow in Shivaji Park. It means the search for mayor’s new bungalow will continue in future.
