MCGM joins hands with Animal Planet to launch a 3D Theatre at Byculla Zoo

The 3D theatre facility at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udhyan and Zoo will begin from February 1, 2019. This initiative between MCGM and Discovery Communications India will showcase wildlife content with an aim to create awareness among the students about the importance of wildlife and conservation.

MCGM has tied up with one of the popular wildlife channels to launch a 3D theatre in the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udhyan and Zoo. In a first of its kind initiative, MCGM will launch the theatre to showcase quality content from Animal Planet, thereby sensitize citizens, especially children, about the importance of wildlife.

The facility will begin from February 1, 2019. Children from BMC schools will be allowed a free entry but the ones from non-BMC schools will be charged INR 50 for the same.

Talking about the same, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, said, "Following the success of MCGM's initiative with respect to Humboldt Penguin Gallery at the zoo, we are pleased to announce the tie-up with Discovery Communications India to bring documentaries from the wildlife channel 'Animal Planet' which will be exclusively available only for the visitors of the zoo."

Adding to this, Ajoy Mehta, Municipal Commissioner, MCGM said, "The state of the art theatre at the Udhyan and Zoo was conceptualised because we wanted to give a new-age dimension of learning led entertainment, with a larger cause of educating the young generation of India about the importance of wildlife. We are delighted that Animal Planet has joined hands with us for this unique initiative. In addition to this, we will also launch an aggressive school reach out campaign inviting students from MCGM schools to experience this world-class theatre"

Zulfia Waris, VP - Premium and Digital Networks, Discovery Communications India, said, "It is an honour for us to work along with MCGM in sensitising citizens of Mumbai especially children about wildlife. The initial line-up of documentaries offered to the VJB Udhyan and Zoo theatre are entertaining and at the same time thought-provoking. We are confident that this new initiative will go a long way in engaging and awakening viewers to the need for animal welfare and conservation."

With this new initiative, Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udhyan and Zoo will be the first in the country to have a theatre in the premises. The theatre will have a seating capacity of 200 people and will facility will showcase 4 shows in a day, between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. It is believed that the new theatre and quality content will increase the popularity of the zoo.
