Metro car shed moved from Aarey to Kanjurmarg; to be used for both Metro-3 and Metro-6

CM Uddhav Thackeray made the announcement regarding the same while addressing the state on October 11, 2020. He also stated that the government has declared 800 acres of Aarey land as reserve forest.

CM Uddhav Thackeray, on Sunday, October 11, 2020, while addressing the state confirmed that the Mumbai Metro car shed which was earlier planned in Aarey will now be shifted to Kanjurmarg. 

This car shed will be used for both Metro-3 and Metro-6. To benefit the state, the government has decided to sanction the land free of cost for the development of the metro car shed. He also ensured that the money spent on the car shed in Aarey will not be wasted in any way, and the departments will look at using the construction is a wise manner.

Appreciating the efforts taken by the department and officials, CM also stated that this project has been successful by the cooperation of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunil Kedar and other members from the Mumbai Metro departments.

Furthermore, he also announced that the government has decided to protect 800 acres of Aarey land as a reserve forest. After thorough consideration, officials increased the land from 600 acres to nearly 800 acres. The departments are working towards protecting the rights of the tribal communities. This will also mark the first instance in the world where an extensive forest will be blossoming within the limits of a metropolis.

Besides this, he also appreciated the efforts taken by activists to protect the land in Aarey and said that all the cases pertaining to the same, with regards to the protestors and activists, have been withdrawn.
