The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) Konkan Board has revised its plans for a housing project in Majiwada, Thane, combining an old age home and a working women’s hostel into taller buildings with increased capacity.
Earlier, the project included two 7‑storey buildings, one for senior citizens and the other for working women. Those plans and tenders have now been cancelled, and the board is preparing a new design.
By increasing the Floor Space Index (FSI) from 1 to 3, the buildings are now proposed to rise to 21 floors, allowing significantly more rooms and better facilities for residents. The proposal has been sent to the MHADA Vice-Chairman for approval, after which new designs will be finalized and fresh tenders issued.
The project is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to provide safe and affordable housing for women, students, and senior citizens, especially in rapidly growing areas of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Once completed, the new buildings are expected to serve more residents and offer improved amenities, strengthening support for elderly citizens and working women in Thane.
