On Wednesday, September 29, an official release stated that a war memorial-cum-museum would be set up in the city. The Army and the state government will be jointly setting up this museum in Mumbai.

According to reports, a meeting was held by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray with  Lt General S K Prashar, GOC Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. During the meeting, the two have discussed the land that would be required for the project.

In the meeting, an official said that Thackeray conveyed that before the 75th Independence anniversary, at least a part of the memorial must be ready.

As per government suggestions, the tri-service memorial could be set up at Borivali or Malwani since it is easier to find a large plot. Wadala, which is closer to the south Mumbai headquarters of the Army and the Navy, was also suggested. They have also considered Colaba as one of the locations since a piece of land belongs to the Defence Minister.

Reportedly, a committee will be formed that will decide on what to display in the museum while the Navy will take up a significant part of the museum.

It is expected that the displays in the museum will depict the life of jawans in the harsh border areas across different territories, and it may also comprise decommissioned hardware and weaponry.
