Maintenance cost of government homes takes toll on mill workers

Mill workers are facing loads of problems provided the houses given by the government. At first, these mill workers had to work hard to get the government home, after which the workers of 18 Mills got 10,000 homes. But after getting home, the maintenance cost of the house is quite high for them to shell out.

The mill workers in Shriram Mill have to pay Rs 1,760 property tax every month for their home and Rs 1,400 as maintenance cost. According to the calculation, mill workers have to pay Rs 38,000 rupees in the form of cheques.

MHADA has constructed big towers for mill workers. But for these big towers, mill workers have to pay more tax. There is the property tax on 500 square feet of homes in Mumbai, but even after the mill workers' house is small, they have to pay taxes.

Datta Iswalkar, President of Mill Workers' Co-operative Housing Society told Mumbai Live that it is becoming difficult for mill workers to live in this house. Iswalkar has demanded Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take action in regard to the matter.
