The Fire and Emergency Services Branch attached to the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has inducted 16 firefighting bikes as the latest addition to its emergency-response fleet.

With this, now the firefighters in Mira-Bhayander will use red Royal Enfield bullets equipped with advanced firefighting technology.

The bike was inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Katkar in the presence of Suburban Chief Maruti Gaikwad and Chief Fire Officer Prakash Borade along with senior fire officials at the civic headquarters in Bhayander (West) on Friday, November 10.

“350 cc (cubic capacity) motorcycles, which are specially made for fire department, will be used to douse fires in slums and congested areas, where fire tenders face difficulties in reaching the spot,” said Katkar.

Two backpack-style fire extinguishers and 35 liter water tanks have been installed on both sides to bring the fire under control quickly. Also includes aerodynamic windshield, fog lamps, revolving flicker lights, two-way jet spray gun, 20-meter hose reel pipe, heavy-duty pressure pump with 100 bar pressure, first aid box, mobile holder with charging point, siren and public announcement system.

Certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the bikes have been purchased from a Tamil Nadu-based company.

Gabriel Zuzarte of Road Rage Customs Build and his team have customised it to international standards.

"The first few minutes of a fire are important, as timely action can prevent the fire from spreading further," said the chief fire officer.
