The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved the construction of seven new foot overbridges (FOBs) along Metro Line 9 to improve commuter safety and ensure smoother pedestrian movement.
The 11-km Metro Line 9 corridor, stretching from Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayander, will see FOBs built near eight metro stations under the Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) initiative. The objective is to provide seamless and safe access to metro stations and improve last-mile connectivity.
According to MMRDA officials, the project has received approval from the 287th Executive Committee as well as from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister. The initiative follows the same integration model previously implemented for Metro Lines 2A and 7.
The FOBs are planned in response to heavy traffic congestion along the Western Express Highway and Mira-Bhayander Road, where wide road stretches (30–60 metres) and high vehicle density make pedestrian crossings difficult and unsafe. The new infrastructure aims to reduce the need for at-grade road crossing and improve overall traffic flow.
INR 82 Crore Project Awarded
The contract for the project has been awarded to M/s Speco Infrastructure JV and M/s PRS Infraprojects LLP at an estimated cost of INR 82.09 crore.
Locations of the Seven FOBs
