Mock drill triggers chaos at Mumbai airport

SHARES

The first ever anti terrorism mock drill conducted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport on Thursday evening caused a panic of sorts before passengers and local residents grasped the reality of the situation.

The drill was conducted jointly by the Mumbai Police, ISF and the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) to chalk out measures to prevent terrorist attacks on airport premises.

A sudden explosion akin to that of a bomb blast, followed by smoke and a fire however caused panic among locals, who speculated that a real terror attack was happening at the airport.

Once the airport authorities cleared the air, however, citizens heaved a sigh of relief. The drill, say sources, checked ways in which a possible terror attack could be countered at the airport.
