After the horrifying monorail accident that occurred on August 19, it has come to light that the monorail once again came to a standstill due to overcrowding. On the morning of August 21, the monorail stopped for about 15 minutes in the Antop Hill area near Acharya Atre nagar station. This time about 50 passengers were stranded who were then safely evacuated. Post the evacuation, the monorail was restarted.


Monorail halted due to excess number of passengers

After Tuesday, August 19, the monorail halted again on Thursday, August 21, due to an excessive number of passengers on board. On Tuesday, the monorail tilted to one side due to overloading. After this, a similar incident was witnessed on Thursday as well. The monorail stopped for about 15 to 20 minutes near Acharya railway station.

Monorail stopped midway on August 19, 2025

Two monorail trains running on the Chembur to Jacob Circle route came to a halt in the evening. Passengers trapped in one of the monorails were rescued by breaking the door with the help of a crane. Passengers aboard the monorail were terrified, some even fainted.

Taking the cognizance of this incident, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has directed the Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation to submit a detailed report of the incident within three days.
