Monsoon expected in Kerala on June 1

Amidst the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the citizens deserve a piece of good news. Weather experts have stated that this year, the monsoon will arrive on-time in Kerala. As per reports, the state is expected to receive rainfall on June 1, 2021. 

Details were shared by the meteorological department which revealed that the monsoon is expected to reach Thalakonam by June 10, 2021, and is expected to cover the rest of Maharashtra between June 15 and 20, 2021. Experts have also said that the monsoon will start on June 1 this year as per the initial estimation.

The secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences, M Rajeevan, took to Twitter to share, ""Monsoon 2021 update: India MET department extended range forecast suggests monsoon will arrive over Kerala on time, around 1 June. This is an early indication. India MET department official monsoon forecast on 15 May and rainfall forecast update around May 31."

Over the last two years, the monsoon in Maharashtra was prolonged due to storms in the Arabian Sea. However, the meteorological department said that no such sign was seen at present for 2021. Keeping this in mind, if the monsoon arrives on time in Kerala, it is expected to arrive in Maharashtra on time too.

Meanwhile, the city of Mumbai was expected to experience moderate rainfall on May 6, 2021. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai took to Twitter and said, "Thunderstorms along with lightning, gusty winds & moderate to intense spells of rain very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts over Satara, Sangli, Pune, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Nandurbar and Osmanabad during next 3-4 hours."
