The mornings in Mumbai is getting cooler as there has been a southwest monsoon withdrawal for the past two weeks, and the winter season is approaching. On Thursday, October 21, the minimum temperature in India Meteorological Department's (IMD) monitoring station at Santacruz was recorded at 22.8 degrees. This is one degree below normal.

Thursday's temperature was down than that recorded on Wednesday, October 20, which was 23.4 degrees. On Tuesday, October 19, the temperature was 24 degrees, while that on Monday, October 18, was 25.8 degrees.

A meteorologist at IMD has said that the strong landward winds coming from the sea towards the evening are bringing the temperature down. As there are no rains anymore, the relative humidity has also reduced. He further said that when the air is humid, it holds the heat better than dry air.

Over the next week, the morning temperature (recorded at 5.30 AM every day) will keep hovering around 23 or 24 degrees, according to the IMD's seven-day forecast for Mumbai. As there are no more rains, the city has seen 'moderate' air quality on October 21 Thursday.

Recently, a study had revealed that Mumbai had experienced a rise in average temperature by 2 degrees in 27 years (1991-2018).
