Goregaon – Residents of Motilal Nagar in Goregaon who have been opposing the construction of a mobile tower in the area, have managed to get a stay on the construction.

The residents staged a protest when the staff of Reliance reached the area on Wednesday to complete the work on a 4G tower that was started a year ago.

Reliance  had erected a tower in Motilal Nagar No. 1 in 2015. The local residents, apprehensive of the inconvenience to be caused to them, had, along with local political parties, opposed this tower and had forced the company to stall the work of a tower construction.

According to the residents, the company commenced digging work this week without taking any permission from the BMC. Local residents came together and approached the police for help. Since the police too did not take any action, the  enraged residents staged a chakka jam in the square, says Sanjay Ahire, a local resident.

D Nemade, engineer in P South ward, told Mumbai Live that Reliance has not sought any permissions from the BMC and that the case is currently sub judice.

Work was stopped on getting orders from the officials concerned, he said.
