Manoj Kotak, BJP MP from Mumbai North East has recently appealed to the Railway Ministry for the Bhandup and Vikhroli commuters.

Kotak had earlier asked the Ministry to start the Mumbai locals for all citizens. As of now, Mumbai locals are operating only for essential services including bankers, health care workers, government officials, etc. The BJP MP argued that as Bhandup and Vikhroli has a large number of commuters, the Ministry should permit the trains to halt in these two stations.

Moreover, his speech in the parliament was in relation to his earlier letter to the Hon. Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray that spoke on the same issue. Kotak further speaking about the halting in the stations of Bhandup and Vikhroli stated that this move could prove to be extremely convenient for all the essential care workers who have been working tirelessly since the start of the pandemic providing relief to the people of the city.

After three months of strict lockdown, the local services were resumed for people engaged in essential services. According to sources, before the lockdown, about 1,200 people would travel easily in a Mumbai local but now as per state norms, only 600-700 people are allowed on each train. However, to avoid overcrowding during rush hours and to ensure that all social distancing norms are met, the frequency of trains on the Railways has been increased.
