Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi along with Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar flags off 300 Haj pilgrims from Mumbai. This year, around 5,600 pilgrims will be travelling to Haj. Naqvi said that the central government completed the Haj 2017 process ahead of time to provide the best facilities to Haj pilgrims. He added that the aim of new Haj Policy 2018 is to create transparency and smooth operations for the Haj pilgrims. He was hinting towards the sea route which is a part of the new Haj policy.

Haj pilgrims are not being allowed to ferry between Mumbai and Jeddah by waterways since 1995. As the Saudi Arabia has increased annual Haj quota of India by INR 34,005, this year, a total of 1,70,025 people will be going to Haj pilgrimage from India, out of which 1,25,025 pilgrims will be going through Haj Committee of India and 45,000 people will be going through Private Tour Operators.
