Mulund Metro Mishap: Family Refuses to Accept Victim’s Body, Seeks INR 2 Crore Compensation

Tensions escalated in Mulund after the family of Ramdhani Yadav, who died in a metro construction accident, refused to take custody of his body and demanded enhanced compensation along with a government job for a family member.

The fatal incident occurred on LBS Road when a heavy concrete parapet segment from the under-construction Metro Line 4 corridor allegedly fell onto a passing autorickshaw. Yadav, who was travelling in the vehicle, died on the spot. The body was later shifted to a local hospital, but relatives declined to accept it as a mark of protest.

According to family members, the compensation initially offered INR 15 lakh from the contractor and INR 5 lakh from the state government is inadequate given the magnitude of the loss. They have demanded INR 2 crore in financial assistance, a secure government job for one dependent, and full coverage of medical expenses for those injured in the accident.

The protest drew support from members of the local community, intensifying pressure on authorities to respond. Police and civic officials held discussions with the grieving family in an attempt to defuse the situation and reach a resolution.

The tragedy has reignited concerns over safety protocols at large-scale infrastructure projects in Mumbai, particularly those taking place in densely populated areas with heavy traffic movement. Questions are now being raised about oversight, contractor accountability, and whether adequate preventive measures were in place at the construction site.
