Days after the CNG and PNG increased again on August 3, the autos and taxis in Mumbai has now escalated the minimum fare hike from INR 3 to INR 4.

As per the Khatua committee calculation, which takes into account fuel price, cost of living index, capital cost, maintenance of vehicle, insurance etc, the minimum hike we would have got a couple of days ago was INR 3.

However, now with the new INR 6 hike per kg in CNG prices from Wednesday, the calculations have changed. And, now we can get a minimum INR 4 hike as per the existing formula.

CNG is now be available at INR 86/Kg, which is an increase of INR 6 and domestic PNG will be available for INR 52.50/Standard Cubic Metre (SCM), an increase of INR 4. The last hike was on July 12. This is the fifth time that there has been a rise in the prices of CNG and PNG in the city.

Soon after this announcement, auto rickshaw and taxi unions expressed shock over the spike and said that they will approach the state government for immediate relief.

It will be impossible to operate taxis and auto rickshaws. The union also hinted to meet the Maharashtra government officials and demand an immediate fare hike.
