Mumbaikars woke up to a sudden chill on Tuesday morning, January 16, as minimum temperature dropped below 20 degrees Celsius.
This brought a huge respite from soaring January heat over the weekend.
It is pertinent to note that with maximum temperatures rising to 35.7 degrees Celsius, the city recorded the warmest January day in the past seven years on Friday, January 12.
According to the data procured from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this is the hottest January temperature recorded since 2017, when the maximum temperatures elevated to 36 degrees Celsius at Santacruz observatory.
On Monday evening, January 15, IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded minimum temperature at 16.2 degrees which was three degrees above normal while Colaba recorded minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees which was one degrees above normal.
As per data shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), on Tuesday morning, January 16, the minimum temperatures recorded in parts of Maharashtra were: Aurangabad - 9.2°C, Nashik - 9.8°C, Satara - 12.4, Washim - 9.7, Nagpur - 12.2, Lonavala - 11.6, Pune Chinchwad - 15.7, Karjat - 12.5, Navi Mumbai – 15, Thane & Raigad interiors around 12-13.

IMD in its forecast for Tuesday said night temperatures are expected to stay around 18 degrees. Moreover, temperatures are expected to dip further tomorrow, January 17.
