After the heavy rains in Mumbai, there is a possibility of the collapse of dilapidated buildings. Meanwhile, 197 residents live in some of the buildings on the list of hazardous cessable buildings announced by the Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board of MHADA. Considering the possible danger during monsoon, now the board has decided to use police force to evacuate the dangerous buildings.


Like every year, the board has announced the list of high risk cessable buildings in Mumbai by the end of May. This year, the list includes 15 buildings. After the announcement of this list, it is necessary to complete the process of evacuation of high-risk buildings before the onset of monsoon. Accordingly, the amendment board has started this process. Out of 424 residential residents, 155 residents have made their own alternative arrangements. So the Board was responsible for shifting the rest of the residents to transit camps. Accordingly, eviction notices have been issued to these residents. After receiving this notice, some residents evacuated their houses. But 197 residents are still living in the dilapidated building. These residents are refusing to vacate the house, said a senior official of the board.

The danger of these buildings is also increasing as the force of rain is increasing now. Therefore, the chief officer of the board, Arun Dongre, informed that now the police force will be used to vacate the houses from these residents.



Demolition of two buildings out of total 15 completed
Out of the 15 high-risk buildings, the board has succeeded in completely vacating six buildings. Out of these six buildings, demolition of two buildings has been completed and demolition of four buildings is in progress. One building is under repair and the case of one building is pending. Residents of the remaining buildings will be shifted soon. The official said that the demolition of the buildings will be taken up immediately after they are vacated.
