Officers of customs booked a case involving the seizure of suspected cocaine weighing 866 grams at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai. The contraband, valued at approximately ₹8.66 crore in the illicit market was recovered from a foreign national who was subsequently arrested.

Based on spot profiling, Customs officers intercepted a foreign passenger who arrived in Mumbai on May 24, 2025 by Flight No. UR430.

According to the Customs sources, on spot profiling, one passenger, Patrick Ruhweza, 60, who had arrived at Mumbai airport from Uganda (Entebbe) on May 24, was intercepted on suspicion of carrying contraband into India.

During questioning, the passenger exhibited signs of nervousness and uneasiness. Further examination and medical investigation revealed that the individual had ingested several yellow-coloured pellets.

The officers conducted the X-Ray test of the pelvic region, which showed suspicious images inside his body. During interrogation, the passenger revealed that he had ingested around 80 capsules containing the narcotic substance.

Under medical supervision and in accordance with the Panchanama dated on May 28, 2025, a total of 866 grams of a white, crumbled substance suspected to be cocaine was recovered from the swallowed pellets. The passenger was placed under arrest under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Ruhweza was taken to the JJ hospital on May 25 and was admitted there till May 28.

Further investigation is underway.
