The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration is running a Total Sanitation Campaign in Mumbai and under this campaign, free dustbins will be distributed by the municipality to the housing societies of Mumbai for classification of wet and dry waste. These dustbins will be provided only to the societies that apply to the municipality.

Guardian Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha on Tuesday announced that the municipality has purchased a total of 1 lakh 20 thousand vessels of 120 litre capacity and more will be purchased if needed. He was speaking in a press conference organised at the Municipal Corporation Headquarters. The problem of garbage in the city is becoming complex day by day. Despite various measures and activities being implemented by the municipality, the problem of garbage has not been solved.

Since citizens do not segregate wet and dry waste, the BMC faces many difficulties in processing the garbage after collection. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation has launched a cleanliness drive in Mumbai since the beginning of December. As a part of the same, dustbins will be distributed by the civic body to housing societies in Mumbai.

It has been made mandatory for housing societies to apply to the municipality for dustbins. The application can be made at the Municipal Corporation office of the concerned department or on the website of the Municipality. Apart from this, helpline number 7030079777 can also be contacted.

1 lakh 20 thousand dustbins purchased by BMC at a cost of INR 8 crore will be distributed in 60 thousand societies. Two dustbins will be provided to each society. Keeping in mind the demand of housing societies, more dustbins will be ordered as per requirement. For this, the municipality has appointed 3 contractors and given them a contract for two years.
