The tragedy on Mumbai’s Elphinstone road which occurred due to a stampede shook, not only the city, but the entire nation. Many were killed in the chaos, and once again, our governance was brought to question in regards to providing and improving infrastructure.
As we all know, Elphinstone road is one of the most popular stations in Mumbai as it hosts many corporate offices in the vicinity. The injured from the tragedy were taken to KEM hospital and treated immediately, while the deceased were identified and immediate action was taken. We also reported yesterday the three boys helped and saved people from dying in the stampede.
Mumbai has never seen such an incident in the recent years. Videos on the internet have also brought the ugly face where humanity seems to be lost. In a state where we all should come together and act with a calm mind, some baseless rumours, news or information makes us act in haste. Although the reason for the incident is not clearly known, such an act from the society is clearly not acceptable.

In tribute to the ones who died at the incident, local residents and many others from the city gathered to offer their prayers at the station last night. Candles were placed on the stairs of the bridge in the remembrance of the beloved Mumbaikars who had to face the consequences. Here are some images:
The government has also taken a note of the same and necessary actions are being planned by the railway minister Piyush Goyal. It is being reported that the construction of a new bridge is being planned and the work will begin in the near future.
