Mumbai managed to maintain its record of zero deaths linked to COVID-19 for the third consecutive day thereby keeping the overall fatality toll intact at 16,685 on Thursday, February 17.

According to the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on the same day, the city reported 259 new COVID-19 cases, a slight spike compared to Wednesday's, February 16, 255.

Continuing with the declining trend the financial capital also saw 426 recoveries while the active cases is 1,945. 

In another welcoming news, Thane city also continued to report a dip in fresh coronavirus cases with 24 people testing positive against 44 on the previous day.

During the day, no new COVID-19 deaths were reported. Whereas, 95 people recovered from the virus.

At present, there are 368 active cases, including 22 hospitalised today, Thursday.

Moreover, Maharashtra also logged no new case of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. On Wednesday and Tuesday, it reported as many as 111 and 351 infections of the new ‘variant of concern’, respectively.

With zero additions in the last 24 hours, the Omicron tally of the western state remains at 4,456. Of this, a total of 3,455 patients have recovered from the new strain following a negative RT-PCR test report, the health bulletin data revealed.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Maharashtra saw yet another spike in single-day COVID-19 cases after 2,797 people tested positive for the virus, up from 2,748 the day before, Wednesday, February 16.
