Mumbai: BMC starts book-selling centres at the canteen of its headquarters

In the age of information technology, there is a fear that the culture of reading is disappearing due to excessive use of mobile phones. Very few people set foot in book fairs or bookstores. Therefore, the BMC has decided to provide space and facilities to the publishers so that the books reach the people. Under that, space has now been given to Dimple Publications in the canteen of the civic body headquarters. Municipal corporation's canteen in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj station area is crowded with municipal employees, officers and citizens every day. Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide inaugurated this hall on Monday. Deputy Commissioner Kishore Gandhi, Ashok Mule of Dimple Publication and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.


After the publishers responded to the call of the BMC, book sale halls started to be opened gradually. A book selling centre of Majestic Prakashan has been opened at Prabodhankar Thackeray Theater in Borivali, while a book selling centre of Jyotsana Prakashan has been opened in the vicinity of Dinanath Theater in Vile Parle.

After the publishers responded to the call of the Municipal Corporation, book sale halls started to be opened gradually. A book selling centre of Majestic Prakashan has been opened at Prabodhankar Thackeray Theater in Borivali, while a book selling centre of Jyotsana Prakashan has been opened in the vicinity of Dinanath Theater in Vile Parle. Manovikas Prakashan has been given a place in the area of General Arun Kumar Vaidya Swimming Pool of the Municipal Corporation of Chembur. Renowned publishers in the Marathi literature world have responded to this initiative of the Municipal Corporation. These publishers will also be able to keep books of other publishers in the sales hall.


It has been stipulated that educational books cannot be sold at these centres. It has also been stipulated that no items other than Marathi literature books can be sold here.


Books at 15 percent discount to readers

Space, water and electricity will be provided to the publishers for this activity. Coordinator Sandeep Vaishampayan informed that moderate conditions have been imposed on the publishers. INR 6,000 will be charged for this place. Also, it has been stipulated that the books should be given at 15 percent discount to the readers. So the readers will also benefit from this activity.
