The health department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has undertaken a special campaign from September 1 to December 31 to prevent adulteration of sweets during the upcoming festivals. Considering the ucoming festivals such as Ganeshotsav, Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali and Christmas, sweet shops, mawa storage and cold rooms will be thoroughly inspected.


The health department of the BMC will inspect the establishments selling Mawa-Mithai in Mumbai during the festival period. The Public Health Department of the civic body has appealed that establishments selling food should take special precautions during this period. Also, it has instructed that in the coming period, medical health officers, sanitation inspectors should thoroughly inspect the sweet shops and establishments where mawa is made and stored.

In this background, all medical health officers and sanitation inspectors of the Municipal Corporation have been instructed to conduct a special campaign in the background of festivals between September 1 to December 31, 2023 in order to prevent citizens from getting adulterated sweets, said Executive Health Officer Dr. Daksha Shah.


Notice the colour of the sweets

The civic body has appealed to the citizens that if they notice different colour in the sweets or if it emanates foul smell or if fungus is seen, then such sweets should not be consumed and if such substances are found, they should be brought to the notice of the Divisional Medical Health Officer of the Public Health Department of the Municipal Corporation.
